WEC Le Mans race: the most tedious and the most difficult race

WEC is a Le Mans racing series co-organised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). It has the highest endurance level in the world, and the highlight is Le Mans 24 Hours. The remaining races are 6 hours long. The WEC Le Mans race first started in 1923; now it has more than 80 years of history. What kind of race is it? To put it simply, famous racers need to complete 350 rounds (almost 5,000 km in total) on a super long track in 24 hours. The team also has to refuel, change tires and repair the car during the same 24 hours. This race requires a car with high speed and stability and poses a test of speed and endurance for both the racer and the car. It is no exaggeration to say that the world's longest endurance race, WEC Le Mans race, is the world's most tedious and the most difficult race.

Porsche's "secret weapons": 919 Hybrid + Mobil 1

In response to the real test of the strength of the WEC races, Porsche specially sent its "secret weapon" - the new Porsche 919 Hybrid - onto the track. The supercar's hybrid system consists of an advanced small displacement 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbocharged direct injection engine and a lithium-ion battery set with energy storage capacity for 2 energy recovery systems. The entire system can produce as much as 1,000 horsepower.

In high-end races such as WEC, a Porsche car racing for 24 hours is equivalent to general use of a car for 6 months. For this race that requires both endurance and speed, Porsche chose its super partner of 20 years - Mobil 1. Mobil 1 is another "secret weapon" of Porsche.

In fact, in 1996, Porsche had already officially announced using Mobil 1 synthetic engine oil as its factory engine oil as well as the recommended engine oil for servicing. For 20 years, every Porsche has been factory-filled with Mobil 1 engine oil. Mobil 1 provides strong support behind-the-scenes for all the classic Porsche supercars winning titles in different races.

In the long 5000-km race, engines and engine oils are faced with enormous challenges and pressure. It is a real test Mobil 1 engine oil's performance in terms of protection and prevention of sludge deposit. As you can see from the diagram below, in the Porsche 919 Hybrid that ran continuously for 24 hours in high-speed, the key components were almost completely new. There was no need for change of parts throughout the whole race. This gave the racers more racing time. With its high-tech engine oil formula, Mobil 1 was able to unleash all the power of the Porsche engine and enhance its durability for more racing time.

From the track to the road: The same engine oil

WEC is the "laboratory on wheels" for the manufacturers to test the performance and endurance of new cars. A lot of prototypes are being sent on to the track for the real test. Models with good results will be entered into higher levels of races in the future, or used in the design and production of normal cars. The champion Porsche 919 Hybrid demonstrated outstanding high-temperature engine performance. This is not only important for the development of the next-generation supercar, but it also allows for the racing technology to be applied to ordinary vehicles. Mobil 1 0W-40 engine oil was not only of great help to the Porsche team in WEC, but it is also the factory engine oil for all Porsche cars around the world. Using the engine oil in professional races allows Porsche and Mobil1 to test and apply their cutting-edge technologies. Through the application on the track, such new technologies can then be continuously applied to normal household cars to provide more driving pleasure to car owners.
